POONCH: In a powerful demonstration of administrative resolve and unwavering commitment to last-mile healthcare, a free medical camp was successfully organised today at the extremely remote and inaccessible Hillkaka area in Surankote.
The camp was held on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma and Director, Health Services Jammu Dr. Poonam Sethi. The entire operation was executed under the close guidance and supervision of Chief Medical Officer Dr. Parvaiz Ahmed Khan and monitored on the ground by Dr. Mohd. Yousf, Block Medical Officer, Surankote.
Displaying exemplary dedication to public service, medical teams were dispatched on 05 August 2026. Braving difficult terrain, the teams undertook a gruelling six-hour journey entirely on foot through rugged mountain paths to reach Hillkaka. They stayed overnight in the far-flung location and conducted the medical camp the following day, ensuring that healthcare reached the people where it was needed most.
The initiative assumes special significance against the backdrop of recent heavy rains, flash floods, landslides and cloudbursts that have severely affected the region. Free medicines were distributed on a large scale to the local population. Comprehensive awareness sessions were conducted on the prevention of water-borne and vector-borne diseases. Detailed guidance was also provided on common ailments, safety precautions against landslides, cloudbursts and the serious risks associated with rivers and streams in the area.
This determined outreach reaffirms the firm resolve of the District Administration and Health Department to leave no citizen behind. Even the most inaccessible populations will continue to receive timely and quality healthcare support, particularly in the aftermath of natural disasters.
