KISHTWAR: An awareness programme on Child Marriage Prohibition Act was today organised here at Madrasa Islamia Arabia Khayarul-Uloom by the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Child Helpline (CHL) and One Stop Centre (OSC). The programme aimed to sensitise the community about the harmful consequences of child marriage and the importance of protecting children’s rights.
Protection Officer-NIC Touseef Iqbal Butt, while interacting with students and staff members of the Madrasa, highlighted the legal provisions against child marriage, its social and psychological impact and the crucial role of religious institutions in preventing this social evil.
He stressed that religious leaders hold a position of trust and respect in society and can play a vital role in preventing child marriage. ‘Through sermons, religious teachings and community interactions, they can educate people about the harmful effects of child marriage and emphasize that Islam promotes education, consent and the well-being of children,’ he added.
CWC Member Wazir Ahmed Waza appealed to religious leaders, teachers and students to actively support the government’s efforts in making society child-marriage-free by reporting cases of child marriage on Child Helpline (1098) and ensuring a safe and dignified future for every child. Vikey Sharma (Project Coordinator, CHL), Saima Kousar (SW, DCPU) and Sashi Kumar (MPS, OSC) were also present.
