JAMMU: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Raman Suri said that the overwhelming response to the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is a reflection of the deep faith, devotion and spiritual connect of people with Baba Amarnath Ji. He said the fact that the number of pilgrims has risen from 3.53 lakh in 2013 to 4.85 lakh this year, coming close to the five-lakh mark, is a significant achievement and testimony to the growing confidence of devotees in the arrangements made for the pilgrimage.
Congratulating Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chairman of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), as well as the Shrine Board, security agencies, civil administration, service providers, volunteers and all those associated with the Yatra, Suri said the achievement assumes greater significance because the pilgrimage had to be suspended for nearly 19 days due to adverse weather conditions, including challenges along the track.
Suri said that despite the interruption, the yatra resumed with renewed enthusiasm among devotees and ultimately registered an impressive footfall of 4.85 lakh pilgrims. “The faith of the people has once again proved stronger than every challenge,” he said, adding that the increasing participation year after year reflects the sacred place that Shri Amarnath Ji holds in the hearts of devotees across the country.
He said the numbers are not merely statistics but an indication of the enormous faith of devotees and the improving ecosystem around the pilgrimage. According to Suri, better facilities, improved infrastructure, strengthened arrangements, enhanced sanitation, accommodation, medical assistance, communication facilities and overall yatra management have contributed significantly to making the pilgrimage more accessible and reassuring for devotees. Jammu, he said also provided pilgrims renewed facilities and recreational areas besides new and modern infrastructure including Tawi Arti and Waste to Wonder Park developed by Jammu Smart City Limited that captivated Yatris.
Suri particularly appreciated the efforts of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board for continuously upgrading facilities and responding to the requirements of pilgrims. “The arrangements made for the safety, security and convenience of the pilgrims have strengthened the faith of people in the administration. The Yatra has evolved considerably over the years, and every passing year has brought visible improvements,” Suri said.
Congratulating the devotees who undertook the arduous pilgrimage, Suri said their determination and devotion deserve appreciation. He also expressed gratitude to the volunteers, langar organisations, security personnel, medical teams, sanitation workers, transporters and other service providers whose contribution makes the Yatra possible. “The journey from 3.53 lakh pilgrims to 4.85 lakh is a journey of faith, improved facilities and better management. Despite the weather-related interruption, Baba Amarnath Ji’s devotees have once again demonstrated that devotion knows no barriers,” Suri said.
He expressed hope that the next Yatra would witness an even greater response and that the administration would continue its efforts to improve infrastructure, strengthen pilgrim facilities and make the sacred journey safer and more comfortable with each passing year.
