SRINAGAR: In a proud moment for Jammu & Kashmir and the School Education Department, Government Boys Higher Secondary School (GBHSS) Zainakote has secured  2nd Rank in the 6th National Water Award 2024, announced by the Ministry of Jal Shakti.  The award ceremony was held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on 18th of November, 2025 and was presided over by the President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu.

The award was received by the Ex-Principal of the school,  Ali Mohamad Rather and  Senior Lecturer,  Nyla Ali, who represented the institution at the national event.  The school has been applauded for its focused initiatives, including rainwater harvesting, grey water recycling,  eco-club awareness drives, innovative student-led projects, and community outreach programmes on responsible water use.

These efforts align closely with the goals of NEP 2020, which emphasises experiential learning, sustainability, and preparing children to become active contributors to environmental protection. This national recognition highlights the school’s role as a leading institution in environmental stewardship and water conservation.
