ANANTNAG: Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) Anantnag Thursday organised an interaction programme cum essay competition with students at Tesla Coaching centre Bijbehara. During the programme, ARTO Anantnag, Dr Showkat Bhat had an impressive lecture on road safety which was followed by a question Answer session. Students were convinced that they should refrain from taking control of vehicles until they reach the age of eighteen and unless they become eligible for holding a driving licence.
ARTO wished them a good career ahead and in the meantime warned them of the consequences of driving vehicles by Minors and the penalty/imprisonment imposed on their parents. ARTO further reiterated that they should focus on their studies, rise and shine and help in raising awareness among their friends, relatives, parents, nears and dears about road safety and safer roads and among all those for whom they care.
Students raised many serious questions about the responsibility of enforcement agencies in curbing rising menace on roads by acting strictly without indulging in corruption and many other valuable questions which were answered by ARTO much to their satisfaction. Later, students were made to write an essay on road safety with the theme - Road accidents -Impact, causes and potential control measures.
A meeting was also convened with all traders and Pollution checking centres operating in the district asking them to take part in road safety Month under CSR initiative and work in close liaison with the department in conducting road safety awareness programs in the district.
Further Road safety hoardings depicting catchy road safety messages were erected across the town in collaboration with Trade Holders and pollution checking centres. Furthermore, on the directions of the Transport Commissioner, JK, a comprehensive drive was conducted with major thrust on two wheeler riders riding without Helmet, they were counselled and were allowed to move only after wearing helmets.
