VIJAYPUR: The District Congress Committee on Monday staged a protest in Vijaypur against the FIR registered against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Led by former minister and senior Congress leader Yashpal Kundal, the protest saw Congress workers raising slogans against the Central Government and demanding withdrawal of the FIR.
Addressing the gathering, Yashpal Kundal said that a controversy had recently emerged in Uttarakhand following an event attended by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, after which the venue was allegedly “purified” by BJP workers. He said Rahul Gandhi raised his voice over the issue, following which an FIR was registered against him. Kundal alleged that the action reflected what he described as the BJP’s anti-Dalit mindset and an attempt to silence the Opposition.
He further claimed that the BJP was “rattled by Rahul Gandhi’s growing popularity” and was repeatedly using legal and political measures against him. Kundal said the Congress would continue to raise issues concerning democracy, the Constitution and social justice. Mandeep Choudhary, Babbal Gupta and several other Congress workers were present during the protest.
