In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family

JAMMU: The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Sciences at Central University of Jammu has successfully organized a 21-day short-term internship program in Chemistry, which concluded on August 7, 2024. The program was designed to provide students with hands-on experience and advanced knowledge in the field of Chemistry, focusing on the synthesis, characterization, and pharmaceutical applications of A4-type Porphyrin.

Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, CUJ graced the course completion event with his esteemed presence. On the occasion Prof. Deepak Pathania, Dean Research; Prof. Vinay Kumar, Dean of School of Basic and Applied Sciences; Dr. Pawan Kumar, Associate Dean Research; and Dr. Kamlesh Kumar, Head of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Sciences was present.

The internship program was convened and guided by Dr. Sujata Kundan, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry and Chemical Sciences, under whose mentorship the students engaged in the in-depth study of the project titled "Study on the Synthesis, Characterization, and Pharmaceutical Application of A4-type Porphyrin." Throughout the program, the students immersed themselves in the synthesis and exploration of the properties of porphyrin, particularly in relation to photodynamic therapy (PDT).

The participants reviewed extensive literature on porphyrin, learning about its synthesis and characterization techniques such as UV-visible and IR spectroscopy. They also gained insights into the significant role of porphyrin in various industries, particularly its use in the pharmaceutical industry and its applications in cancer research and therapy.

A total of 21 students from Government Gandhi Memorial (G.G.M) Science College, Canal Road, Jammu, were enrolled in this comprehensive internship program, which ran from July 25, 2024, to August 7, 2024.
