In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family

JAMMU: Dr. Pardeep Mahotra, Media Incharge, J&K BJP, strongly criticized PDP chief and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for her repeated defence of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), calling her remarks unfortunate, irresponsible, and deeply damaging to national interests.

Dr. Pardeep said that the water resources flowing through India are India’s sovereign property and must primarily be utilized for the welfare, development, and security of Indian citizens. He asserted that this water will now be used for irrigation, replenishing water bodies, navigation, power generation, and multiple development-oriented purposes. He said that the regions like Jammu, which are currently facing acute electricity and water scarcity, can be completely relieved once new projects are commissioned using this water.

Taking a sharp dig at Mehbooba Mufti, Dr. Pardeep said it is deeply disturbing that leaders who have enjoyed all privileges as Indian citizen, including holding the highest constitutional posts, repeatedly appear more concerned about Pakistan’s interests than the welfare of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.

“Pakistan is a failing rogue state, solely responsible for decades of bloodshed in India. It is directly responsible for the killing of thousands and indirectly for the deaths of lakhs through terrorism,” he said.

Dr. Pardeep reminded that Pakistan-sponsored terrorism forced lakhs of Hindu minority community members to flee their ancestral homeland in Kashmir. He said that Pakistan has left no stone unturned to destabilize and burn Jammu & Kashmir, yet Mehbooba Mufti chooses to shed tears for Pakistan while remaining silent on Pakistan-sponsored massacres in Kashmir, the very region she claims to represent.

Terming her comments on the Indus Waters Treaty as misleading, Dr. Pardeep said that branding water as a ‘weapon’ is a deliberate attempt to dismiss India’s legitimate security and development concerns. He said that the IWT was an unjust agreement that disproportionately favored Pakistan at the cost of Jammu & Kashmir. India showed restraint and responsibility for decades, even while facing relentless terrorism, he added.

Dr. Pardeep Mahotra emphasized that prioritizing India’s farmers, citizens, and development is not inhuman but a national duty. First, we must use our water for our people, only then can discussions about others arise. He further said that the national interests cannot be politicized, and such statements must be firmly rejected.
