• Direct immediate action on public grievances

JAMMU: Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, accompanied by MLA Jammu North Sham Lal Sharma, conducted an extensive spot inspection of the Jammu–Akhnoor National Highway (NH-144A) from Rajouri Lane to Domana in the presence of SDM Jammu North Deepak Kumar, NHAI General Manager Ajat Shatroo Jamwal, and other concerned officials. The inspection covered key locations including Rajouri Lane, Barnai, Patoli, TV Tower Nagbani, Machhlia Nagbani and Machine Domana, where the leaders reviewed various public grievances and assessed the status of infrastructure and development works.

During the visit, residents raised serious concerns regarding recurring waterlogging and flooding during the rainy season. It was observed that the absence of a deep drainage channel along the left side of the National Highway has resulted in rainwater entering residential areas, causing inconvenience and damage to property. Taking serious note of the issue, MP Jugal Kishore Sharma directed NHAI and concerned departments to prepare and execute a comprehensive and permanent drainage solution on priority. He emphasized that all preventive measures must be completed before the onset of the monsoon season to safeguard the interests of local residents.

MLA Jammu North Sham Lal Sharma highlighted the need for timely intervention and close coordination between the National Highways Authority and the district administration to address the longstanding drainage issues. Both leaders assured residents that the matter would be closely monitored and all efforts would be made to ensure permanent relief from waterlogging and related problems. The delegation also inspected various link roads connecting residential localities and villages to NH-144A and directed the concerned authorities to undertake proper grading, repairs and maintenance works to improve connectivity and public convenience.

During their visit to Rama Colony in Machhlia Nagbani, the leaders interacted with families displaced during the 1971 Indo-Pak War who were later rehabilitated in the area. The residents informed the delegation that each displaced family had originally been allotted 10 marlas of land, out of which approximately 5 marlas were subsequently utilized for the construction and expansion of the Jammu–Akhnoor National Highway.

However, despite the acquisition of this land, the affected families have not been allotted the additional 5 marlas due to them. Taking cognizance of the issue, MP Jugal Kishore Sharma and MLA Sham Lal Sharma directed the SDM Jammu North and concerned revenue authorities to intervene in the matter and ensure its early resolution. They assured the affected families that the issue would be vigorously pursued with the concerned departments so that justice is delivered at the earliest.

Reiterating their commitment to public welfare and responsive governance, both leaders stated that regular field visits are essential for understanding ground realities and ensuring accountability in developmental works. They assured residents that all genuine grievances raised during the inspection would be taken up on priority and pursued until effective solutions are achieved. The concerned officials were directed to submit detailed reports and initiate necessary action on all issues identified during the inspection.
