UDHAMPUR: All Cells Incharge, J&K BJP, Ved Sharma, stated that Village Defense Guards (VDGs) are playing a vital role in strengthening the security apparatus in rural and far-flung areas, particularly across the Udhampur-Doda belt, by standing firmly with the security forces and remaining committed to the protection of their villages.
Ved Sharma was addressing a meeting of VDG members from all four Assembly constituencies—Ramnagar, Chenani, Udhampur West and Udhampur East—at the BJP office in Udhampur. The meeting was attended by District President Arun Gupta, VDG Cell Convenor Basant Raj Thakur and Udhampur-Doda Organizing Secretary Vipan Sharma, besides senior office bearers and members of the VDG Cell.
Ved Sharma, appreciating the dedication and commitment of the VDGs, said that their role has immense importance from the security point of view, especially in rural and strategically sensitive areas. He said that the courage, discipline and sense of responsibility displayed by VDG members reflect their strong commitment towards the nation and their communities.
Sharma called upon the VDG Cell functionaries and party workers to ensure effective implementation of the programmes under the Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan, scheduled from September 17 to October 17. He informed that responsibilities have been assigned to state office bearers of the VDG Cell and the district team for organizing and coordinating various activities during the month-long campaign.
Ved Sharma also announced a target of lighting 2 lakh diyas on September 17, on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday, as part of the celebrations and service-oriented activities being organized under the campaign. He urged the VDG fraternity and BJP workers to actively participate and make the initiative a mass movement.
BJP District President Arun Gupta said that the VDG Cell has been entrusted with an important role in carrying out the programmes assigned to the district team, Morchas and Cells. He stressed upon the functionaries to work in close coordination and ensure successful execution of every programme.
Vipan Sharma also addressed the meeting and called for strengthening coordination among the VDG Cell, party organisation and grassroots workers to ensure effective outreach across all areas.
Basant Raj Thakur welcomed the participating members and senior leaders and appreciated the cooperation extended by the VDG fraternity. He also presented a detailed account of the work undertaken by the VDG Cell team in Udhampur district. VDG Cell Co-Convenor Harinder Singh proposed the vote of thanks.
