CHANDIGARH: Aryans College of Pharmacy, Rajpura near Chandigarh celebrated World Pharmacy Week 2026 with academic sessions, student competitions and community outreach activities. The week focused on the role of pharmacists in healthcare and the need to raise awareness about antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Dr. Bikash Medhi of PGIMER inaugurated the celebrations on 17 September. Addressing the students, he spoke about the importance of pharmacists in promoting the safe and responsible use of medicines.
Throughout the week, students interacted with experts from academia and industry, including Dr. Richa Shri, Professor, Punjabi University, Patiala; Dr. Dimple Sethi Chopra, Associate Professor, Punjabi University, Patiala; Dr. Shweta Sen, Founder and CEO of Integrum IP and Government Patent Agent; Dr. Onkar Singh, Senior Manager, Valence Labs, Rajpura; and Gurbinder Kaur, Assistant Professor and Research Scholar, Chitkara University, Patiala. Parexel also contributed to the celebrations, adding an industry perspective to the programme.
The activities gave students several ways to turn knowledge into public awareness. A Pharma Quiz tested their understanding of the profession, while the Nukkad Natak, Leaflet Competition, Scitoon Competition and Poster Presentation encouraged them to communicate health messages creatively. Through the AMR Awareness Rally, students carried the message of responsible antibiotic use beyond the classroom.
Dr. Rajesh Kumar Goyal, Professor, Punjabi University, Patiala, led the closing ceremony. The week concluded with a clear message: pharmacists play a vital role in helping people use medicines wisely and in building healthier communities.
World Pharmacy Week is observed from 19 to 25 September, marks the founding of the International Pharmaceutical Federation in 1912 and recognises pharmacists’ contribution to safe medicine use and better health.
