KATRA: The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) at the University of Jammu organized an educational industrial visit to Ramada Katra for the first batch of Master of Business Administration in Tour and Travel Management (MBA-TTM, Semester I) students. The visit aimed to connect classroom learning with real-world hotel operations.

Under the guidance of Prof. Suvidha Khanna, Director-SHTM, the visit was organized as part of the Experiential Learning Course in MBA (TTM). The visit aims to orient the students about the importance and vast potential of the hotel industry, highlighting the diverse career opportunities, evolving industry trends, and the skills required to build a successful career in the hospitality sector.

Emphasing experiential learning as a core component of the MBA(TTM) curriculum, Prof. Anil Gupta, SHTM, observed that early engagement with reputable hospitality organizations enhances students’ professional capability, fosters career preparedness and establishes a firm grounding for entering the industry.

Faculty members Dr. Priyanka Sharma and Dr. Rakesh Sharma accompanied the students and pursued the learning experience with support from hotel professionals. The primary goal was to give the new students practical exposure to both the front of house and back of house functions in a luxury hotel environment. During the orientation and property tour, hotel leaders spoke to the group about operational standards, excellence benchmarks, and career growth opportunities in today’s hospitality industry.

General Manager Mr. Dheerendra Kumar Yadav shared insights on strategic property management and the hotel’s corporate culture. Housekeeping Head Ms. Sushila Lakra and Supervisor Mr. Akhtar Ali explained the detailed processes, quality checks, and hygiene protocols needed to uphold five-star standards.

The guided tour covered key departments including Front Office, Food & Beverage Service, Housekeeping, and Culinary Arts. Through interactive discussions with department heads, students compared theoretical ideas—such as the guest cycle, inter-departmental coordination, and service recovery—with actual practices in a working hotel. SHTM faculty highlighted the value of experiential learning in the curriculum, noting that early interaction with established global hospitality brands helps develop professional skills, industry readiness, and a solid operational foundation for careers in tourism and travel. Prof. Suvidha Khanna, Director-SHTM, Prof. Anil Gupta, SHTM, faculty, and students of SHTM expressed sincere thanks to General Manager Mr. Dheerendra Kumar Yadav and the entire team at Ramada Katra for their warm hospitality, active support, and dedication to advancing hospitality education.
