SHOPIAN: A Mega drug de-addiction awareness programme on thrusday was organised by School Education Department District Shopian at Govt Boys Higher Secondary School Shopian besides various other schools of the District. On the occasion, Chief Education Officer Shopian Bashir Ahmad Malla, Principal BHSS Shopian other officers and officials of Department, and a large number of students participated in the important awareness programme.
The speakers emphasized on the ill effects of drug abuse and highlighted the need of taking immediate preventive and remedial measures for combating and eradicating the menace of drug addiction and other social evils in the district. The organisers said that the main aim of the programme was to spread awareness amongst the student community to take necessary steps for curbing the rising drug menace.
CEO Shopian, who was the chief guest on the occasion, advised the students not to indulge in drug abuse and other social evils and instead be a role model in the field of education, sports and other activities. Highlighting the harmful effects of drugs, he said that it starts merely as an amusement but ends up becoming addiction.The young generation is the most-affected section of drug addiction that needs to be eradicated completely from the society, he said seeking cooperation of all stakeholders.
CEO further said that the Shopian administration would lend a helping hand to anyone who was feeling stressed and ensure that youth instead engage in academic, co-curricular and sports activities.
Principal BHSS Shopian, Mohd Ashraf Allaie and other speakers also spoke on the occasion and appealed to the students to stay away from the tobacco and other harmful drugs and live a healthy and peaceful life. Later a rally with participating students and teachers was taken out for the mass awareness of the people. The programme was managed by Sajad Ahmad Bhat Cultural Coordinator Shopian.
