SRINAGAR: Continuing its efforts to curb the menace of drug trafficking and safeguard society from the harmful effects of narcotics, Police in Kupwara have detained a habitual drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act, 1988.
The detenue Sajad Ahmad Lone @Saj Pal son of Gh Mohd Lone resident of Lastiyal, Kralpora, Kupwara, is involved in multiple narcotics-related cases, including FIR No. 219/2021, FIR No. 158/2022, and FIR No. 274/2023, registered at Police Station Kupwara. Based on a detailed dossier prepared by Police Post Kalaroose, his involvement in illicit drug trafficking was established, necessitating his preventive detention.
Acting on the recommendation of District Police Kupwara, the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, issued the detention order under the PIT NDPS Act, following which the accused has been lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal today. The detenue was apprehended from District Ferozepur Punjab by police party from PP Kalaroose.
