SHOPIAN: on the occasion of World Zoonoses Day, District Surveillance Unit, Shopian, successfully organized a joint coordination meeting-cum-awareness programme at the Meeting Hall, Mini-Secretariat, Shopian.
The programme was conducted in collaboration with the Health and Animal Husbandry Department, and other line departments with the aim of raising awareness about Zoonotic Diseases ā diseases transmitted from animals to humans ā and to promote better coordination among departments for their prevention and control.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from officials of the Health, Animal Husbandry, Wildlife, Forest, Municipal Council, and other allied departments. ASHA Workers, field health staff, and workers from other key sectors were also present and actively engaged in the programme.
Chief Medical Officer, Shopian, appreciated the active involvement of all departments, officials, ASHA Workers, and field staff, emphasizing that the prevention and control of zoonotic diseases requires collective responsibility, community awareness, and sustained inter-departmental coordination.
During the sessions, participants were sensitized about the types of zoonotic diseases, their signs and symptoms, prevention strategies, importance of early detection, laboratory diagnosis, and the crucial role of all departments and field-level workers in addressing these health threats.
