JAMMU: The Division-Level Launch Programme of National Immunisation Day (NID) 2026 under the Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme was held today at Government Hospital Sarwal Jammu.
The Pulse Polio Campaign 2026 across Jammu Division is being conducted on a large scale, with 5,402 vaccination booths established across the Division. A total of 22,304 health workers and volunteers have been deployed to implement the programme. To cover children on the move, 148 transit vaccination points and 130 mobile teams have been set up.
Through these arrangements, the campaign aims to administer Oral Polio Vaccine to approximately 8.24 lakh children under the five years of age across the Division, ensuring that no child is missed and the region's polio-free status is sustained.
Member of Parliament Sat Sharma (CA), Chief Guest, inaugurated the programme by administering polio drops to children. MLA Jammu West Arvind Gupta attended as Guest of Honour.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries highlighted the importance of immunisation in protecting children from vaccine-preventable diseases and noted the achievements of the Pulse Polio Programme in India. They appealed to parents and caregivers to participate actively in the campaign and ensure that every child below five years of age receives polio drops during the National Immunisation Day and the subsequent house-to-house activity.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest appreciated the efforts of the Health Department and frontline workers in implementing immunisation programmes across Jammu and Kashmir. He called for continued public participation and awareness to maintain the gains achieved under the Pulse Polio Programme.
Among those present were Director Health Services Jammu Dr Poonam Sethi; Assistant Director (Family Welfare, MCH and Immunisation) Jammu Dr Sunil Kailu; Medical Superintendent Government Hospital Sarwal Dr Monika Kotwal, besides senior health officers, medical officers, field functionaries and healthcare workers.
