GANDERBAL: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ganderbal, conducted a district-wide door-to-door Legal Awareness Campaign on the NALSA (DAWN – Drug Awareness and Wellness Navigation for a Drug-Free India) Scheme, 2025 today across various areas of the district.
The awareness was conducted by the Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) of DLSA Ganderbal in several areas including Wayil, Kachnambal, Kurhama, Manigam, Surfraw and Kangan.
The campaign was conducted under the supervision of Abdul Nasir, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Ganderbal, and under the guidance of Sheikh Babar Hussain, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Ganderbal.
The initiative aimed to create awareness regarding the ill effects of drug abuse, promote a drug-free society, and ensure effective dissemination of information about free legal services available to eligible persons.
During the awareness programmes, the Para Legal Volunteers visited households, local markets and public places, where they interacted with students, youth, parents, shopkeepers and members of the general public. The participants were sensitized about the harmful consequences of substance abuse on individuals, families and society and were encouraged to adopt a healthy lifestyle while promoting the message of "Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life."
The PLVs also explained the objectives and salient features of the NALSA DAWN Scheme, 2025, including awareness on prevention of drug abuse, counselling, de-addiction and rehabilitation services, and the legal support available to affected individuals and their families.
Information was disseminated regarding the constitutional and statutory right to free legal aid, the categories of persons entitled to free legal services under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, and the procedure for availing legal aid, legal representation, mediation, Lok Adalat and other legal services through the Legal Services Institutions.
The Para Legal Volunteers further appealed to the community to actively participate in anti-drug initiatives and work collectively towards building a healthy and drug-free society.
The awareness campaign received an encouraging response from the local residents, who appreciated the initiative of the District Legal Services Authority, Ganderbal, and actively participated in the awareness sessions.
