JAMMU: The Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu organised an Academic Orientation Programme for newly admitted students of the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) and M.Ed. programme today. The programme aimed to familiarise students with the University’s academic environment, various teacher-education programmes, admission and registration procedures, departmental activities and their academic responsibilities.
The programme was organised under the visionary leadership of Prof. Sanjeev Jain, vice chancellor, Central University of Jammu. The programme commenced with a warm welcome by Prof. Ritu Bakshi HoD, Department of Educational Studies. In her address, she highlighted the importance of joining the Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu and becoming part of an institution committed to academic excellence and holistic developmentas new education policy (NEP)2020 also have vision of this approach.
She encouraged them to participate actively in academic and co-curricular activities and contribute meaningfully to the University and also conferred the appropriate use of Artificial Intelligence in education and explained how students’ present decisions and responsible actions could influence their future lives. Prof. J.N. Baliya Dean, Department of Educational Studies spoke about the University’s academic journey and the collective responsibilities of students and faculty members.
He also deliberated the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) and highlighted its role in preparing competent, professionally skilled and socially responsible teachers. Prof. Asit Mantry conducted the general orientation and familiarised the students with the University’s academic environment and institutional practices. He made the students aware of their roles and responsibilities in the development of their academic institution and in the process of nation-building. He encouraged them to develop a positive attitude towards learning, uphold institutional values and contribute meaningfully to society and the nation.
The faculty members of the Department of Educational Studies subsequently introduced themselves and explained their assigned academic and administrative responsibilities. Dr. Kiran introduced the ‘Devika’ departmental magazine to students and clarified the process of submitting and publishing academic and creative ideas. Information was also shared about the University’s sports festival and National Service Scheme activities.
Dr. Aman provided a detailed orientation on the structure and major components of the B.Sc.–B.Ed. programme. The students were informed about the objectives, academic requirements and professional significance of the programme. Dr. Ravi discussed his assigned departmental responsibilities and informed the students about educational visits organised by the Department. Dr. Ravi Vanguri discussed the educational visits organised by the Department and explained their importance in connecting theoretical knowledge with practical experiences.
Dr. Yad Ram explained the examination system and familiarised students with the relevant examination procedures, academic requirements and responsibilities. Dr. Mohan Galgotra discussed placement opportunities and provided an orientation to the scheme and structure of the M.Ed. programme. Dr. Ravail Singh delivered a session on research and innovation and provided an orientation to the ITEP B.A.–B.Ed. programme. He highlighted the importance of research-based learning, innovation and reflective practices in contemporary teacher education. Dr. Nidhi Sarraf familiarizes students with the departmental library and available learning resources. She also discussed various co-curricular activities and encouraged students to participate actively for their holistic development and the Guest facilitiesMr. Surjeet Lalotra, Dr. Shikha and Sumedha Rout also joined this orientation programme.
The programme concluded with an address by the Dean and Head of the Department, who welcomed the newly admitted students and encouraged them to maintain discipline, regularity and active participation in academic activities through provided academic kits comprising bags, diaries and umbrellas on behalf of the Department. This thoughtful gesture was intended to welcome and motivate the newly admitted students as they began their academic journey at the University.
