• Institution secures prestigious National-Level Recognition under ToFEI School Challenge

JAMMU: Government Higher Secondary School Dablehar has earned national recognition by securing the prestigious National-Level Consolation Prize under the ToFEI (Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions) School Challenge: Towards a Tobacco Free Generation organized by the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

The honour was conferred after a comprehensive evaluation process conducted at the district, state and national levels. The GHSS Dablehar emerged among the best-performing institutions of the country for its remarkable efforts in promoting awareness against tobacco use and fostering a healthy and tobacco-free environment among students. The achievement has been widely hailed as a proud moment for the entire education fraternity of Jammu and Kashmir.

The success of the institution has been credited to the visionary leadership and dedicated efforts of Principal Irvinder Kour, whose consistent guidance and commitment played a pivotal role in steering the campaign successfully. The tireless contribution of staff members, particularly Bhader Singh, Lecturer in Economics and incharge of these events and initiatives, along with the enthusiastic participation of students, and staff members proved instrumental in securing this prestigious recognition at the national level.

Chief Education Officer Jammu Ajeet Kumar Sharma felicitated Principal Irvinder Kour and appreciated the collective efforts of the school administration, staff members and students for bringing laurels to Jammu district and the Union Territory.

The CEO lauded the institution for transforming awareness campaigns into meaningful social initiatives. He described the achievements of the school as an inspiring example of how government educational institutions can play a transformative role in shaping a healthier, aware, and socially responsible society. He also encouraged other schools to take inspiration from GHSS Dablehar and emulate its commitment towards building tobacco-free educational institutions.

The Ministry of Education, Government of India, in its official communication, appreciated the active involvement of students and the support provided by teachers, school authorities and the Education Department in spreading awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco among young learners.

Pertinently, GHSS Dablehar has, over the years, carved a distinct identity for itself through a series of remarkable achievements at the national and regional levels. The institution is notably the only Government School to secure a prestigious 5-Star rating in the Swachh Harit Vidyalaya Rating Survey 2025 after successful national-level validation, with formal national felicitation expected shortly.

Adding further glory to the institution, two students of the school, Karnveer and Aryan, represented the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in a National-Level Prototype Exhibition held at the prestigious Plaksha University Mohali-Punjab. The school also participated in the Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025, launched by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, where its innovative idea and prototype successfully cleared multiple levels of evaluation and were submitted for recognition at the national level.

In another major accomplishment, the institution secured the coveted Green School Award, for which a felicitation ceremony was held in New Delhi. Further strengthening its reputation for innovation and scientific temperament, the school’s idea and prototype were selected under IIT Jammu’s flagship programme Pragyan. During the event, students from various schools of Ladakh UT and Jammu & Kashmir UT visited the school’s stall and appreciated the innovative work displayed by the young students. Former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta also visited the stall and applauded the creativity, talent and efforts of the budding innovators.

Apart from these achievements, the institution has consistently performed exceptionally well in various state-level competitions and activities organized from time to time, further reinforcing its reputation as one of the leading government educational institutions of the region.

As part of the latest recognition under the ToFEI School Challenge, a National Level Felicitation Ceremony is scheduled to be held on May 29, 2026 at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre (DAIC), New Delhi, where the winning schools from across the country will be formally honoured for their achievements. The accomplishment of GHSS Dablehar stands as a shining testimony to the dedication, teamwork, innovation and social commitment of government schools in nurturing responsible, aware, talented and health-conscious citizens.
