JAMMU: The Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu, is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of its recent online lecture titled “Maharishi Sri Aurobindo’s views on poet and poetry” on the under Shiksha Shashtraath, via Google Meet, with a dynamic and inclusive thought. The initiative attracted a diverse audience, including students, faculty, researchers, and professionals from various fields, showcasing the department's commitment to knowledge sharing and academic excellence.
Dr. Disha Sharma, coordinator, Department of Educational Studies, CUJ, welcomed the esteemed Head of the Department, the resource person, Dr. Charan Singh Kedarkhandi and the faculty members. She began by delivering a note on the importance of poetry and writing as a skill in the present times.
The lecture featured renowned expert, Dr. Charan Singh Kedarkhandi, working as an Assistant professor at Govt. Postgraduate College Jyotirmath Uttarakhand, Himalayas. He provides valuable insights into the significance of poetry and poetic creation in an individual's professional and personal life. He delves deep into Sri Aurobindo’s philosophy of poetry. He cited distinct examples of creations from Valmiki, Wordsworth, and John Keats.
Asserting the purpose of poetry, he states, “Poetry serves as a bridge between what exists and what should be." From Thoreau to John Donne to Rabindranath Tagore and Aurobindo’s Savitri, he created a flux of poetry. The session encouraged lively discussions, enabling attendees to engage with the speaker and deepen their understanding of the subject matter.
Prof. Asit Mantry, the Head of the Department, remarked, “We are thrilled with the overwhelming response to our online lecture. It demonstrates the community's eagerness to explore and discuss the pertinent issue of a lack of creativity and originality in the young minds.” He also emphasized that the lecture aimed at the student’s mental caliber to adopt and learn the skills for survival in a highly competitive environment.
He states that the department looks forward to organizing more lecture series in the future to foster continued learning and collaboration. Prof. Mantry added that the department, under the able leadership of Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, CUJ, is committed to providing a conducive environment for students to excel academically and personally. It is with the common goal of both visionaries that such events can become fruitful for the holistic development of students, researchers, and faculty.
Following the interesting session, Dr. Kedarkhandi conducted a live Q&A session addressing the special queries of the participants. Students praised the accessible format of the online lectures, with many expressing their appreciation for the opportunity to engage with esteemed academics irrespective of the distance.
