JAMMU: Replacing the outdated term “paramedical” with “Allied and Healthcare Professions”, as per the provisions of the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Act, 2021, by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, is a landmark step under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This was stated by Dr. Pardeep Mahotra, Media Incharge, J&K BJP, who said that this reform is a much-needed move to bring dignity, structure, and recognition to lakhs of healthcare professionals who play a vital role in supporting clinical services and patient care across the country.

He further stated that the official order issued on July 1st, coinciding with Doctor’s Day, reflects the Modi government’s strong commitment to honouring and empowering the medical fraternity.

Dr. Mahotra emphasized that this change is not merely semantic but a foundational reform that will transform healthcare delivery in India. He added that with this change, professionals across ten major categories, including medical laboratory and life sciences, radiology and imaging, physiotherapy, optometry, nutrition science, occupational therapy, community care and behavioral health sciences, emergency and trauma care, medical technologists and physician associates, as well as health information management and health informatics, will now be brought under a formal regulatory framework with standardized education, ethical practices, and defined career pathways.

The Modi Government's initiative is a progressive and long-awaited reform that not only grants due recognition to lakhs of allied and healthcare workers but also brings them into the mainstream of the healthcare ecosystem. The standardization and accreditation of these professions will ensure higher quality services, increased accountability, and enhanced public trust in the healthcare system.

He said this will enhance the quality, accountability, and efficiency of healthcare services, especially benefiting patients in both rural and urban areas by ensuring access to well-trained and clearly designated professionals. It will also open new avenues for employment and skill development in the health sector, aligning with the Government’s vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat, he said.

Dr. Mahotra noted that this decision reflects the Modi Government’s continued commitment to strengthening the healthcare infrastructure of the country, not just by building hospitals, but by creating a robust and well-supported human resource base that can serve every citizen with dignity and care by reform, recognition of talent, and promotion of a modern, inclusive healthcare system that is aligned with global standards.
