JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE), in collaboration with PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development) NCERT, inaugurated a five-day workshop aimed at revolutionizing assessment systems in education. The workshop, held at the conference hall of JKBOSE headquarters, focuses on two significant objectives: the development of a Holistic Progress Card for the secondary stage and the standardization of question paper templates.

The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Sudershan Kumar, JKAS, Secretary, JKBOSE, who underscored the importance of modern, student-centric evaluation systems. He emphasized that these initiatives align with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, ensuring an equitable assessment of students’ cognitive, emotional, and skill-based competencies. He emphasized, “ Aim of this workshop should not be learning new concepts but embracing the responsibility in implementing these ideas in classrooms and institutions.”

Dr. Sudhir Singh, Director Academics, addressed the gathering and stressed the importance of creativity and problem-solving abilities in question paper design. He highlighted the necessity of aligning classroom teaching methods with these new evaluation frameworks to foster holistic learning. He expressed his gratitude to Director School Education Jammu, Director SCERT, Principals of all DIETs and Heads of participating Pvt. School for their Cooperation 

In a special voice message, Dr. Indrani Mukherjee, Head, PARAKH, NCERT, commended JKBOSE’s efforts in achieving equivalence among boards nationwide, particularly in assessment patterns. Earlier, Dr. Yasir Hamid Sirwal, Joint Secretary (Academic), welcomed all participants and guests. He called for collective efforts to bring about the transformative changes envisioned by NEP 2020.

Two experts from PARAKH, NCERT, conducted the technical sessions with provided detailed presentations on the concept of the Holistic Progress Card, setting the tone for the next four days, during which they will deliver sessions on the workshop's key topics.

Approximately 100 educators from the School Education Department, including representatives from private schools, DIETs, and SCERT, participated actively in the event. Ms. Sugandh, Academic Officer, anchored the inaugural session, ensuring smooth proceedings. The officers and officials of the Academic Division, Jammu, were also present, demonstrating their commitment to the workshop's objectives.

This workshop marks a significant milestone in the journey to modernize and standardize assessment systems, paving the way for a more transparent, equitable, and student-centered education system in Jammu and Kashmir.
