UDHAMPUR: An awareness programme was organized by the Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women Mission Shakti under the Social Welfare Department Udhampur, in collaboration with the Poshan Project Udhampur, at AWC Kalta Panchayat Padanoo, Udhampur. The event was part of the 100-day special awareness and enrollment drive conducted by Mission Shakti Udhampur.
The programme was held under the able guidance of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai, and supervised by District Social Welfare Officer, Kanika Gupta. Its primary aim was to educate the audience about various women-centric schemes and to inform them about significant women-centric legislations such as the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005; the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961; the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal Act, 2013; and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006.
The main objective of these schemes and legislations is to uplift and empower women. Officials from SANKALP HEW explained a variety of Government schemes, services, and programmes including Beti Bachao Beti Padhao BBBP, health-related schemes of the National Health Mission NHM, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, scholarship schemes, education-oriented schemes, skill-oriented programmes, business start-up schemes, and pensions for the elderly, widows, and physically challenged individuals.
Later, Gender Specialist HEW, Pooja Jamwal, emphasized how these schemes are designed to promote women's education, health, safety, and empowerment, with a focus on the empowerment of girls and women.
The programme concluded with a plantation drive organized by the Social Welfare Department, during which four plants were planted by the HEW team in the names of baby girls under the BBBP banner.
Approximately 78 participants, including supervisors of the Poshan Project, Anganwadi workers, helpers, local women, and children, took part in the awareness campaign.
