KUPWARA: Vice Chairman, District Development Council (VC-DDC) Kupwara, Haji Farooq Ahmad Mir conducted a comprehensive tour of the Wavoora constituency on Sunday to assess the damages caused by landslides during the recent rainfall.
On the occasion, VC visited various areas, including Shrant, Kawari, Doban, Warnow, Sewer, Gratnard, Tenkipora, Gagal, Bat Gagal, and Bedibera, to assess the post rainfall situation. He conducted on-site assessments and closely monitored the situation.
Accompanied by representatives from various government departments, including from Roads and Buildings (R&B), Rural Development Department (RDD), Public Health Engineering (PHE), and other relevant authorities, VC took detailed stock of the situation.
He emphasized the need for immediate action, instructing concerned authorities to implement protective measures in the affected areas. He said that he had already raised the issue with the district administration Kupwara, leading to the approval of two blocks under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). This approval will ensure that the affected areas receive the attention and support they require.
The unrelenting rains had caused significant landslides, resulting in damage to several homes and infrastructure. In response, the VC DDC directed the concerned departments to prioritize the protection of these vulnerable areas. He also assured local residents that he would continue to push for urgent interventions from the district administration.
Several local delegations raised concerns about unscheduled power cuts and the Vice Chairman directed the concerned to address these issues aimed for smooth conduct of the holy month of Ramadan.
During the day-long tour, Haji Farooq visited Bedibera-Tangchek in Lolab, where he met local youth. During the interaction, he assured the local youth that a new playfield would be developed at New Colony Bedibera.
