JAMMU: In a major push ahead of the upcoming Swachh Survekshan evaluation, the Commissioner of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Dr. Devansh Yadav, today spearheaded an extensive Cleanliness Drive-cum-Shramdaan activity at Deeli Pond, ChanniHimmat. The initiative is part of the corporation's ongoing "Clean Jammu Green Jammu Campaign" aimed at restoring and preserving local urban water bodies.
The JMC Commissioner personally led the inspection on the ground, closely monitoring the existing sanitation conditions, waste management systems, and the overall upkeep of the pond's catchment area. During the drive, the Commissioner actively engaged with the local residents of ChanniHimmat to gather direct feedback on civic amenities. Addressing localized concerns regarding drainage and waste disposal, the Commissioner reiterated JMC's absolute commitment to robust public grievance redressal. The Commissioner also visited the temple situated close to the water body to discuss the area's maintenance with the resident priest, subsequently issuing on-spot instructions to municipal teams to ensure a permanent, high-frequency cleaning schedule around the religious site.
Following the Commissioner's strategic field review, specific operational directives were executed by a team of senior administrative and technical wings of the corporation who joined the drive. The Joint Commissioner (Health & Sanitation), along with the Health Officer, managed the overall sanitation layout and equipped the field teams with specialized tools and tackles for efficient cleaning.
To ensure the comprehensive restoration of Deeli Pond, heavy field operations were deployed under the guidance of the Chief Transport Officer (CTO) South, utilizing dedicated Nallahlabor and municipal machinery to clear deep silt and floating debris from the water. Simultaneously, the Assistant Floriculture Officer deployed teams for pruning and bush cutting along the periphery of the pond to enhance the site's aesthetic upkeep. To align the entire drive with national cleanliness benchmarks, the CTO North oversaw the installation of official awareness and informational signages at the site in strict compliance with the SwachhSurvekshan toolkit.
The Commissioner spent significant time interacting directly with the sanitation workers (SafaiKaramcharis) and ground staff on-site, highly commending their hard work and dedication. While listening to the day-to-day operational challenges faced by the field teams, the Commissioner assured them that the administration would provide all necessary support to improve their working conditions, motivating them to continue their vital service toward urban hygiene.
To maximize community involvement, the JMC Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) wing, alongside partners from M/s Swaaha Resource Management Pvt.Ltd., conducted on-site awareness activities to encourage local residents to keep the restored water body free of plastic and litter. Concluding the drive, the JMC Commissioner emphasized that sustaining the ecological health of Jammu's community ponds requires both consistent inter-departmental teamwork and active public partnership.
