JAMMU: The Department of English, Central University of Jammu, organized an Educational Outreach Programme for students from Carmel Convent School, Jammu. A group of 107 students and four teachers arrived at the university campus with full enthusiasm.
The highlight of their visit was a tour of the ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) facility centre on campus. Prof. Vinay Kumar, Dean, School of Basic & Applied Sciences and the staff explained various scientific tools like telescopes and binoculars, offering insights into their practical uses for space observation and astronomy. The students were fascinated by how these instruments help explore the universe and track celestial bodies, sparking their interest in space science.
Afterward, the students visited the university's laboratories, where they learned about the basics of electricity and the operation of different electronic devices. The instructors also explained scientific abbreviations, enhancing the students' understanding of modern technology. The hands-on explanations and practical demonstrations helped students connect their classroom knowledge with real-world applications.
Following the lab session, the group moved to the Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) building for a break. The students enjoyed refreshments and participated in interactive activities that encouraged creativity, teamwork, and bonding with their peers. The field trip successfully combined educational content with recreational activities, leaving the students with a deeper appreciation for space science, electronics, and scientific instruments.
The visit to Central University of Jammu was a valuable experience for the Carmel Convent School students. The programme was coordinated by the Head of the English Department, Dr. K. Rajesh, along with doctoral scholars, students, and staff. Vice Principal Shanthi and class teacher Neeru Sharma of Carmel Convent School praised the visit for its educational value and engaging nature, calling it an informative and memorable experience for all involved.
