• Comprehensive awareness, outreach activities conducted across district

BUDGAM: Continuing its sustained efforts under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), a series of awareness, outreach, and community engagement activities were conducted today across various parts of Budgam district to strengthen the campaign against drug abuse.

A pledge ceremony was organised by the Sukhnag Forest Range of Pir Panjal Forest Division Budgam at the Forest Range Office Sukhnag, where officials and participants reaffirmed their commitment towards building a drug-free society.

An NMBA Awareness-cum-Pledge programme was also held at Ishtiyaq Memorial Government Middle School Drang Khag by the Sukhnag Forest Range of Pir Panjal Forest Division Budgam, sensitising students and staff about the harmful effects of substance abuse and encouraging responsible social behaviour.

Meanwhile, the Excise Department Budgam conducted an extensive awareness and survey programme under the NMBA campaign at Village Aripanthan, Tehsil Beerwah. During the programme, posters highlighting the ill effects of drug abuse were pasted at prominent locations and distributed among local residents.

Door-to-door awareness was carried out among farmers, advising them to refrain from cultivation of illicit crops and informing them about offences and penalties under the NDPS Act. Farmers actively participated in the campaign and expressed strong support for eliminating the menace at the grassroots level. A field survey was also conducted to detect illicit cultivation; however, no such crops were found.

In another initiative, a Wall Painting event promoting anti-drug awareness was organised at Government Degree College Magam under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, spreading awareness through creative community engagement.

Additionally, NMBA awareness rallies were conducted across all Halqas of Block Narbal by the Rural Development Department (RDD) with active participation of local youth, reinforcing collective responsibility in combating substance abuse.

The District Administration Budgam reiterated its commitment to intensify the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan through coordinated efforts, public participation, and sustained awareness initiatives aimed at achieving a drug-free and healthy society.
