JAMMU: Under the visionary guidance of Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, CentralUniversity of Jammu, the Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu, under the Shiksha Shastraarth Forum, organised an extension lecture on “The Future Prospects of School Education in India” at Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya Shiksha Bhawan.
The lecture was organised for the students of the B.A. B.Ed. Integrated Programme to provide them with insights into the emerging trends and future directions of school education in India.The session commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Ritu Bakshi, Head, Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu. This was followed by the felicitation of the esteemed speaker, Mr. Kundan Lal Dogra, Principal, MV International School, Vijaypur, by Prof. Ritu Bakshi and Prof. Asit K. Mantry.
In his insightful address, Mr. Dogra highlighted the changing nature of classrooms and the evolving role of students as active users and creators of technology rather than mere learners. He emphasised the need for future teachers to be technologically smart, AI-literate, creative, innovative, adaptable, and emotionally intelligent. He also drew meaningful comparisons between the Guru-Shishya Parampara of ancient India and the role of teachers in contemporary education, highlighting the continuing importance of mentorship, values, character building, and meaningful teacher-student relationships.
The speaker further discussed the vision of NEP 2020 and its relevance to prepare learners for the demands of the 21st century, while connecting it with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat. He emphasised that future teachers need to develop a student-centred mind-set, critical thinking, effective communication, collaborative skills, a global and Indian outlook, and a commitment to lifelong learning and character building.
The lecture was followed by an engaging question-and-answer session, providing students an opportunity to interact with the speaker and gain practical insights into becoming effective and future-ready teachers. The session proved to be an enriching academic experience, enhancing students’ understanding of the changing landscape and future prospects of school education in India. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the keynote speaker, university authorities, faculty members, and students for their valuable participation.
