KATHUA: On the occasion of the ongoing 78-day Yajna of the four Vedas at Ved Mandir, Yol, Yogacharya Swami Ram Swarup Ji delivered a discourse to seekers based on the Vedas. He stated that the present creation came into existence 1,96,08,53,127 years ago. Before the origin of creation, there was a period of dissolution (Pralaya). At that time, there was no living being or material object in the world. There was also no teacher or Guru who could impart knowledge to humans after creation.
Citing Rigveda Mantra 1/22/3, Swamiji said, “Without being given, knowledge does not arise.” Therefore, when God created this universe from Prakriti, there was no Guru to give knowledge to the beings born in creation. Referring to Yoga Shastra Sutra 1/26 of Rishi Patanjali, he explained that God is the Guru even of the Gurus of our previous creations, because the Gurus of past creations have left their bodies, whereas the Supreme God is beyond the bondage of death. Hence, the first Guru of every creation is God Himself.
Further, as per Rigveda Mantra 10/181/1-2, the Supreme God, by His own power, reveals the knowledge of the Vedas in the hearts of four Rishis in the divine Sanskrit language. Thus, “Shuddha Parishkrita cha ‘Sanskrit Bhasha’ kathyate” — the language that is pure, refined, and purified of errors is called the divine Sanskrit language.
This language is also called Dev Vani. Swamiji emphasized that this language is a unique treasure of Bharatvarsha because, having originated from God, it is not a language of this world but divine speech. It is not a man-made, imaginary language created by humans. Sanskrit is the cornerstone of Indian culture. All ancient repositories of knowledge are preserved in this language. The Upanishads, the six Darshanas, Valmiki Ramayana, Mahabharata, Bhagavad Gita, etc., were all composed in classical Sanskrit.
“Therefore, if the younger generation of our country does not have knowledge of Sanskrit, our culture — which exists in the above-mentioned scriptures — will vanish, and our very identity as Indians will be erased,” Swami Ram Swarup warned. He appealed to the government to make arrangements for imparting knowledge of Sanskrit in all schools, colleges, and universities across the country.
