• Multi-Pronged Drive Launched | Sniffer Dog Squads Deployed | Searches Conducted | Medical Shops Checked | Poppy Cultivation Destroyed | Licences Cancelled | Massive Student Rally Leads Awareness Wave

PULWAMA: In a resolute and high-impact action under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Police in Pulwama carried out a comprehensive multi-pronged offensive across the district, combining stringent enforcement measures with aggressive awareness initiatives to combat the drug menace at every level.

In a major show of operational strength, sniffer dog squads were deployed during an extensive vehicle checking drive conducted by Police Station Rajpora. The deployment of these specialized units ensured meticulous screening and significantly enhanced the district’s anti-narcotics surveillance mechanism, sending a strong deterrent message to those involved in drug trafficking.

As part of intensified enforcement, widespread search operations were conducted at multiple locations including Zasoo, Tumlahal, and Dougam, targeting the residences of suspected drug peddlers to dismantle local drug networks and prevent illegal narcotics activities.

In a significant crackdown on illegal cultivation, poppy plants were destroyed in Litter and adjoining areas during a joint operation by Police, Revenue, and Excise Departments with active support from local residents. Similarly, illicit poppy cultivation at Putrigam was identified and destroyed, leading to the registration of FIR No. 69/2026 under sections 8/18 NDPS Act against the involved individual.

Further tightening regulatory oversight, medical shops were extensively checked across various areas including Aarihal and other jurisdictions. Stock registers and sale ledgers were thoroughly examined to ensure compliance, and shopkeepers were strictly directed not to sell NRX/banned drugs without valid prescriptions.

Taking firm administrative action, Pulwama Police has recommended cancellation of driving licences of three drug accused, reinforcing a zero-tolerance policy. Additionally, action has been initiated for cancellation of government accommodation allotted to an individual involved in an NDPS case.

On the awareness front, a massive student rally from Pahoo to Dougam was organised, witnessing enthusiastic participation of youth advocating for a drug-free society. Furthermore, awareness drives were conducted at Government High School Handiya and Genius Academy Chatapora, where students and participants were sensitized about the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of collective responsibility.

J&K Police reiterates its unwavering commitment to eradicating drug abuse and urges the general public to actively support this mission by sharing any information related to drug trafficking or substance abuse, thereby contributing towards a safer and healthier society.
