SOPORE: In continuation of the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Police in Sopore has further intensified its multi-pronged drive across Police District Sopore through awareness programmes, anti-drug rallies, pledge ceremonies, and focused enforcement measures to curb the menace of drug abuse.
Series of awareness programmes and anti-drug rallies were organised at multiple locations across the district. Participants took a collective pledge to combat drug abuse and work towards a Nasha Mukt Sopore. The programmes witnessed active participation from ADC Sopore, Tehsildar Sopore, officials from Health, R&B and Education Departments, members of civil society, Auqaf Committees, religious leaders, youth, and students.
Participants carried banners and placards with messages such as âSay No to Drugsâ and âSave Youth, Save Futureâ, spreading awareness about the harmful social, health, and legal consequences of narcotics. Speakers emphasised the need for a collective and coordinated approach involving administration, police, civil society, and families to safeguard the younger generation.
In parallel with awareness efforts, Police, in coordination with the Drug Control Department, conducted surprise inspections of chemist shops and drug stores across the district. The drive aimed to ensure strict compliance with norms governing the sale of psychotropic substances and to prevent misuse of prescription medicines. Chemists were directed to maintain proper records, verify prescriptions, and adhere to all provisions under the Drugs & Cosmetics Act.
Police reiterated that alongside sustained awareness initiatives, strict enforcement against drug trafficking and misuse of pharmaceutical drugs continues across the district. Police reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and appealed to the general public to extend full cooperation and share information regarding drug-related activities.
