• Sniffer dogs, Narco raids strengthen crackdown

SRINAGAR: In a determined push to eliminate the drug menace, Police in Handwara & Anantnag have significantly intensified anti-narcotics operations under the ongoing campaign for a drug-free Jammu & Kashmir.

In Handwara, police have deployed specially trained sniffer dog units at key locations to boost detection capabilities. These canine squads are being actively used during naka checking, surprise inspections, and area domination exercises, enabling swift identification of concealed narcotics. The move reflects a strategic upgrade in enforcement tactics and serves as a strong deterrent against drug peddling networks.

Simultaneously, in Anantnag, police conducted extensive narco raids across multiple identified hotspots based on credible intelligence inputs. Dedicated teams carried out thorough searches of suspected premises, while preventive legal action was initiated against known offenders. Narco K9 units were also deployed to enhance the efficiency of search operations.

In addition to enforcement measures, a detailed survey of both movable and immovable properties belonging to the suspected drug peddlers was undertaken. The objective of this exercise is to trace the source of funding and identify assets acquired through proceeds of drug trafficking, which shall be liable for attachment under the provisions of law.

Citizens have been urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and share any information related to drug trafficking or abuse, reinforcing the collective mission of building a drug-free society.
