KATRA: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, celebrated National Sports Day with great enthusiasm under the theme “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat”. To mark the occasion, the Board for Sports Activities, SMVDU, organized the Major Dhyan Chand Basketball and TennisTournaments for both boys and girls.Around 80 students actively participated in the tournaments,displaying remarkable sportsmanship, teamwork, and competitive spirit.

The events were organized to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand and to promote the spirit of fitness and sporting excellence among students.The matches were successfully conducted under the supervision of Mr. Balbir Singh, Sports Coach, and Mr. Sumit Sharma, Sports Official, who ensured the smooth conduct of the competitions.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Parvez Singh Slathia, In-charge Sports, SMVDU, congratulated the winners and appreciated the enthusiastic participation of all students. He encouraged them to continue pursuing sports with dedication and wished them success in their future sporting careers.Prof. Pragati Kumar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, also congratulated all the participants and winners and conveyed his best wishes.

He emphasized the importance of sports in building discipline, leadership, teamwork, and a healthy lifestyle, and appreciated the Board for Sports Activities for organizing the event under the inspiring theme “Khelega Bharat, JeetegaBharat. ”The celebration concluded with a renewed commitment to promoting sports culture and encouraging students to actively participate in physical activities for their overall development.
