SHOPIAN: In continuation of the ongoing Panchayat Electoral Roll Revision 2026 and the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) initiative, a series of awareness programmes were conducted today at Government High School Shadab Karewa and Government High School Chanchmarg, Shadab Karewa, by the District Election Office Shopian in collaboration with Chief education officer shopian.

The programmes aimed at sensitizing students, staff about the importance of electoral participation and the ongoing revision of the Panchayat Electoral Roll. During the sessions, awareness was imparted regarding the right to vote, procedures for enrolment, and the significance of ensuring accurate electoral registration. On the occasion, officials highlighted the importance of voting in a democratic setup and urged all eligible citizens, particularly those who have attained the age of 18 years as on 01-04-2026, to enroll themselves in the electoral roll. It was emphasized that active participation in elections is essential for strengthening grassroots democracy.

The programmes witnessed the participation of teaching staff and school authorities, who extended full cooperation in organizing the awareness activities. The initiative forms part of the district’s broader outreach campaign under SVEEP, following the recent flag off of the IEC van by the Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, to enhance voter awareness across Panchayat Halqas in block Keller.
