- Organization gears up for stronger expansion across the Union Territory
JAMMU: In a major organisational decision aimed at strengthening the teachers' movement across Jammu & Kashmir, the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM), India's premier nationalist teachers' organisation, has appointed Devraj Thakur, National Joint Secretary of the Mahasangh, as the State Organizing Secretary (Pradesh Sangathan Mantri) for Jammu & Kashmir.
The appointment was announced by National Organizing Secretary Mahinder Kapoor during the two-day State Executive Meeting of ABRSM held at Kishtwar, which witnessed the participation of more than one hundred delegates representing every region of Jammu & Kashmir. The decision reflects the organisation's determination to accelerate its expansion, strengthen its grassroots network, and build an even more vibrant and effective teachers' movement throughout the Union Territory.
A seasoned organiser and respected education activist, Devraj Thakur has devoted decades to nation-building through organisational work. He previously served as the National Internal Auditor of ABRSM and Convener of its Higher Education Wing in Jammu & Kashmir. Earlier, he successfully led the organisation as its State President for six years, during which ABRSM significantly expanded its footprint across schools, colleges and universities in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, bringing thousands of teachers under its banner.
Before joining ABRSM in 2016, Thakur rendered 26 years of distinguished service in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), serving in several key organisational responsibilities, including three years as State President. His vast experience in organisational planning, cadre development and leadership has earned him wide respect among teachers and educational stakeholders.
The appointment is widely viewed as a strategic move by the Mahasangh to inject renewed energy into its organisational structure and intensify its outreach to every educational institution across Jammu & Kashmir. Under Thakur's organisational leadership, ABRSM aims to strengthen its presence at the grassroots level, champion teachers' legitimate concerns, promote educational excellence and actively contribute to the implementation of the National Education Policy while safeguarding the dignity and interests of the teaching fraternity.
Expressing confidence in the new responsibility, the leadership of ABRSM stated that Devraj Thakur's proven organisational capabilities, unwavering commitment and long record of dedicated service make him the ideal choice to lead the next phase of the organisation's expansion. The Mahasangh reiterated its resolve to build a stronger, united and dynamic teachers' movement capable of addressing the emerging challenges in the education sector and ensuring that the voice of every teacher is effectively represented.
The appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter for ABRSM in Jammu & Kashmir, with the organisation poised to strengthen its organisational network, deepen its engagement with educators and emerge as an even more powerful force for educational reforms and teachers' welfare across the Union Territory.
