GANDERBAL: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ganderbal today organized a legal awareness programme for prisoners at Subsidiary Jail Dignibal Ganderbal. The programme was held under the supervision of Abdul Nasir, Chairman District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ganderbal and guidance of Sheikh Babar Hussain, Secretary District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ganderbal.
Secretary DLSA Ganderbal presided over the legal awareness program. During the program, Secretary DLSA enlightened the undertrial prisoners about their rights and entitlements, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Premature Release, Parole and Furlough of Prisoners, 2022, Parole and Furlough, Rights of Undertrial Prisoners, Plea Bargaining, Rights of Prisoners & Bail Provisions and working of Undertrial Review Committee.
During the program, intern law students of Kashmir Law College, Nowshera Srinagar and Vitasta School of Law, Nowgam Srinagar interacted with undertrial prisoners and made deliberation on various topics with them. All the law enthusiastically participated in the program and explained the legal concepts in simple terms, making it easier for the prisoners to understand their rights.
The prisoners also actively participated in the interaction, asking questions and seeking clarification on various legal issues. The program aimed to educate the undertrial prisoners about their legal rights and empowering them with legal knowledge. The initiative is part of the National Legal Services Authority's efforts to promote legal awareness and empowerment among the citizens especially under trial prisoners.
