JAMMU: Adv. Purnima Sharma, Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) J&K and former Deputy Mayor of Jammu, has strongly criticized the National Conference (NC) for its complete failure in fulfilling the tall promises made to the people during the 2024 Assembly elections. Despite over six months passing since assuming office, the NC-led administration has not taken any concrete steps to implement its much-hyped electoral commitments, leaving the people of Jammu and Kashmir disillusioned and betrayed.

Adv. Purnima Sharma highlighted that the NC’s manifesto was filled with grandiose promises aimed at misleading the public and securing votes. However, once in power, the party has conveniently ignored the very people it vowed to uplift. She pointed out that essential pledges such as providing 12 free gas cylinders annually, 200 units of free electricity per year, and free drinking water for every household remain unfulfilled.

The senior BJP leader further lambasted the NC for its failure to generate the promised 100,000 job opportunities for the youth, a commitment that had raised expectations among the unemployed populace. Instead of taking proactive measures to address unemployment, the government has remained silent, offering no concrete policy framework or roadmap for job creation. Additionally, the much-publicized scheme of providing Rs 5,000 per month to female heads of economically weaker households has remained mere rhetoric, exposing the NC’s lack of intent to empower women.

Another major area of concern highlighted by Adv. Purnima is the deteriorating healthcare scenario in the region. The NC had assured the establishment of a state-of-the-art cancer hospital, free medical insurance up to Rs 5 lakh for terminal diseases, and the creation of village and mohalla clinics. However, no tangible progress has been made in this direction. The delay in executing these critical health initiatives is a clear indication of the party’s disregard for the well-being of the people.

She also criticized the NC for failing to establish the Minority Commission, a key promise aimed at safeguarding the rights of minority communities. Furthermore, commitments such as free education up to the university level, enhanced old-age and widow pensions, and a comprehensive state health policy remain mere words on paper.

Adv. Purnima Sharma accused the National Conference of engaging in deceptive politics and making hollow promises to gain power. She asserted that the people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve a government that prioritizes development, governance, and welfare rather than indulging in empty rhetoric. She urged the NC-led administration to take immediate steps to fulfill its commitments or be prepared to face the ire of the public in the upcoming elections. The BJP, she affirmed, will continue to hold the government accountable and stand by the people in their fight for justice and development.
