BANJAR (HP) An international two-day conference on the theme "Identity, Culture, Development, and Environment in the Himalayas: Challenges and Future Perspectives" was inaugurated today, August 13, 2024, at Government College Banjar under the chairmanship of the college principal, Dr. Renuka Thapliyal.
Dr. Harish Kumar (Additional Director, Directorate of Higher Education, Shimla), on behalf of the Chief Guest, Director of Higher Education Dr. Amarjeet K. Sharma, virtually inaugurated the program. Special guest Dr. Gopal Krishna Sanghvi (OSD Colleges cum State Nodal Officer, Directorate of Higher Education, Himachal Pradesh) also graced the occasion with his presence.
The conference was conducted in a virtual format, with various speakers presenting their research papers via Google Meet. The keynote speaker, Dr. J.C. Kuniyal (Scientist-G and Head, Environmental Assessment and Climate Change Center, G.B. Pant National Himalayan Environment Institute, Almora, Uttarakhand) and Honorary Fellow, Bath Spa University, London, shared insights into the environmental challenges in the Himalayan region and his research conducted in Bajoura, Mohal (Kullu).
Invited speakers including Dr. Swagata Vasu, Dr. Priy Ranjan, Dr. Jitendra D. Soni, Dr. Sachin Kumar, Dr. Pawan Kumar, and Dr. Krishna Prasad Bhandari shared their perspectives on the conference's main theme.
The conference was divided into four technical sessions, chaired by Dr. Kanchan Chandan, Dr. Meena Kumari, Dr. Nirmala Chauhan, and Dr. Jagriti Upadhyay. A total of 40 speakers presented their views, while around 200 students from Government College Banjar participated online and offline, listening to and discussing 28 research papers on the problems and solutions concerning the Himalayan region.
