SRINAGAR :The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, today felicitated the winners of the ‘Pedal Through Paradise’ cycling event, commending the enthusiasm, determination, sporting spirit and aspirations demonstrated by the participants. He described the event as a reflection of the optimism, self-confidence and vibrant energy of a new Jammu Kashmir, driven by the talent, ambition and potential of its youth.
Addressing the gathering at the felicitation ceremony, the Lieutenant Governor underscored the importance of youth-centric initiatives in fostering a culture of discipline, perseverance, social responsibility and constructive engagement. He observed that the achievements of the participants represented the changing face of Jammu Kashmir and demonstrated the significant role young people can play in advancing inclusive growth and contributing to the nation's development.
The Lieutenant Governor lauded the Jammu Kashmir Police for extending their role beyond conventional security and law enforcement responsibilities through meaningful community outreach initiatives. He noted that programmes such as ‘Pedal Through Paradise’ reflect the force's commitment to strengthening public trust and fostering closer bonds with citizens by integrating discipline with inspiration and official duty with social responsibility.
“Initiatives such as ‘Pedal Through Paradise’ are testimony to the fact that the Jammu Kashmir Police have combined security with compassion, discipline with inspiration, and duty with social commitment, so that bonds of the heart may be forged with the people of the Union Territory of Jammu Kashmir,” he said.
Highlighting the transformative potential of youth engagement, Shri Sinha observed that the Civic Action Programmes of the Jammu Kashmir Police have opened up new avenues for young people to participate in constructive activities, acquire skills and pursue sporting excellence. These initiatives, he said, have contributed to building confidence among youth while encouraging their meaningful participation in society.
Reflecting on the broader transformation underway in the Union Territory, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized that Jammu Kashmir's narrative is increasingly defined by present-day achievements and future opportunities rather than being confined to the challenges of the past.
“The story of Jammu Kashmir is no longer confined to the challenges of the past but it is also the story of the efforts of the present and the possibilities of the future,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor further observed that Jammu Kashmir is steadily emerging as a land of opportunities, with its youth making their mark across diverse fields, including sports, education, innovation and entrepreneurship. He stressed that sustainable and meaningful regional development depends on empowering young people with adequate opportunities, confidence in their abilities and a strong sense of unity and collective purpose.
Reiterating his commitment to youth empowerment, Shri Sinha said, “I have always emphasised that the true upliftment of any region occurs when its youth have faith in their eyes, opportunities in their hands, and a feeling of unity in their hearts. I am confident that events such as ‘Pedal Through Paradise’ will inspire the youth of Jammu Kashmir to contribute significantly to the development of the nation through their talent, hard work, and determination.”
Emphasizing the wider social significance of sporting and community-based initiatives, the Lieutenant Governor stated that programmes such as ‘Pedal Through Paradise’ and ‘Jashn-e-Dal’ go beyond the framework of sporting competitions. He noted that such initiatives cultivate discipline, perseverance and resilience among participants while promoting positive engagement and encouraging young people to pursue constructive goals.
He called upon citizens to embrace positive thinking, knowledge and innovation as essential drivers of collective advancement. Underscoring the importance of youth participation in nation-building, he described the energy and potential of the younger generation as the nation's greatest asset and encouraged young people to participate actively in sports and community-oriented programmes.
The Lieutenant Governor also reiterated the importance of building a drug-free Jammu Kashmir, stressing that the fight against substance abuse requires the active participation of every section of society. He emphasized that individuals affected by substance abuse must be supported with empathy, compassion and appropriate rehabilitation, reaffirming the need for a collective and humane approach to addressing the challenge.
Calling for coordinated efforts among all stakeholders, Shri Sinha urged citizens, institutions and community representatives to work together towards ensuring peace, sustained progress and the creation of a healthy, prosperous, secure and forward-looking Jammu Kashmir. He congratulated all participants in the cycling event, appreciating their contribution to promoting sporting excellence and carrying forward the spirit of positive social change.
“It is the collective responsibility of all of us to provide the youth with platforms where their energy receives a positive direction, their talent receives encouragement, and their dreams receive the opportunity to be realised.
“All sections of society must participate in the fight against drugs.
