BHADERWAH: The Department of Geography, Institute of Mountain Environment (IME), Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu, organised a guest lecture on “Climate Change and its Implications on the Indian Himalayan Region” by Dr. Anwesha Borthakur, PhD, Humboldt Fellow, Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society, Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich, Germany.
In his message, Rector, Bhaderwah Campus, Prof. Rahul Gupta, congratulated Dr. Chhering Tandup and the Department of Geography for organising the knowledge-enriching programme. He encouraged the department to organise more such lectures, academic interactions and collaborative initiatives aimed at strengthening research linkages and facilitating meaningful MoUs and academic collaborations with national and international institutions.
Prof. Rahul Gupta also expressed his gratitude to Dr. Anwesha Borthakur for sharing her valuable expertise and insights with the students and research scholars of the Campus. Delivering the lecture, Dr. Borthakur highlighted the growing impact of climate change and extreme weather events on the fragile Himalayan ecosystem. She also emphasised the need to preserve indigenous knowledge systems and integrate them into contemporary approaches to climate adaptation and environmental conservation.
The lecture was attended by faculty members, research scholars and students, followed by an engaging interaction with the speaker. Dr. Subash Sharma also shared his perspectives on IT and Bio Punk, adding an interdisciplinary dimension to the discussion. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks. The department expressed hope for further academic and research collaboration with Dr. Borthakur.
