SHOPIAN & GANDERBAL: Continuing its sustained crackdown on illegal mining, J&K Police seized Five Dumpers, Five Tippers and Eight tractors in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals from different areas of the district Shopian, besides Police also seized 09 Vehicles; including, 07 Tippers & 02 Tractors for illegal extraction of Minor Minerals in Ganderbal.
In Shopian, during routine patrolling, a police party from Police Station Zainapora seized five dumpers, four tractors & one tipper found engaged in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without mandatory permission. In this regard, FIR No. 104/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered in Police Station Zainapora and investigation has been initiated. In a similar action, a police party from Police Station Shopian intercepted and seized three tippers carrying mining material without valid royalty documents.
FIR No.164/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Shopian and further investigation is underway. In another action, a police party from Police Post Turkwangam intercepted and seized four tractors and one tipper found involved in illegal mining activities without the mandatory permissions. FIR No.105/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered in Police Station Zainapora and investigation has been initiated.
In Ganderbal, Police seized 09 Vehicles; including, 07 Tippers & 02 Tractors for illegal extraction of Minor Minerals. These vehicles were found extracting and transporting mining material without valid authorization, in violation of the prescribed norms. Accordingly, the vehicles were seized on the spot and the matter was taken up with the concerned Geology & Mining Department, which subsequently imposed the requisite fine under the relevant provisions of law.
Police reiterated its firm commitment to protecting the districtâs natural resources and taking strict legal action against individuals involved in illegal mining activities. The general public has been urged to cooperate with the police and report any such unlawful activities. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
