NOWSHERA: The Jammu and Kashmir Forest Department conducted a comprehensive tour and awareness programme in Nowshera Forest Division to initiate the groundwork for the upcoming ten-year Khair Management Plan (2027–28 to 2036–37). The programme was led by Chief Conservator of Forests, Jammu, Dr. V. S. Senthil Kumar, IFS, accompanied by Conservator of Forests, West Circle Rajouri, Shri Sat Paul, IFS.
The visit was organized in connection with the Khair Awareness Programme aimed at scientific assessment of Khair trees for formulation of the next felling cycle. The data provided by farmers will form the foundation for preparing the Khair Management Plan to be implemented from 2027–28 to 2036–37.
To ensure systematic and transparent data collection, field staff distributed Khair Assessment Forms among farmers. The programme also witnessed the presence of ADC Sunderbani, Shri Ramkesh Sharma, KAS, along with other revenue officers and officials, reinforcing inter-departmental coordination for effective implementation.
On the occasion, Dr. V. S. Senthil Kumar planted a sapling at Nagar Van, Charnote, symbolizing the department’s commitment to environmental conservation and promotion of indigenous species. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Conservator of Forests stressed the importance of scientific assessment, transparency in forest management practices, and active community participation to ensure sustainable utilization of Khair resources and long-term ecological balance.
The programme concluded with clear directions to field staff for timely completion of the assessment process and close coordination with local stakeholders to achieve the objectives of sustainable forest management.
The Divisional Forest Officer, Nowshera Forest Division, expressed confidence that the collaborative initiative would strengthen community participation and lay a strong foundation for responsible and sustainable Khair resource management in the region.
