RAMBAN: As part of Financial Literacy Week being observed from February 9 to 13, the Reserve Bank of India conducted a series of financial literacy awareness camps across Ramban district to promote customer awareness and safe banking practices.

The programme was led by Assistant General Manager, RBI, Gaganpreet Kaur and witnessed active participation from students, villagers and security personnel. This year’s theme, “Know Your Customer (KYC) – Your first step to banking”, was emphasised throughout the sessions.

The first awareness camp was organised at ITI Ramban, followed by a session at Govindpura, Maitra. A comprehensive programme was later held at the Conference Hall of the District Administrative Complex, where Jammu and Kashmir Police and SDRF personnel, including senior officers, participated.

Participants were educated about the role and functions of the Reserve Bank of India, the importance of KYC compliance, financial discipline and the distinction between needs and wants. Emphasis was laid on safe banking practices, digital transactions, prevention of cybercrime and protection against digital fraud. Awareness was also created about government-sponsored schemes including Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Atal Pension Yojana.

The programme at the District Administrative Complex featured presentations and interactive lectures by AGM RBI Gaganpreet Kaur, Lead District Manager Ramban Davinder Singh, Branch Manager SBI Ramban Tanesh Basnotra and Financial Literacy Counsellor Vinay Koul.

Speakers advised participants not to share OTPs, ATM PINs or banking credentials. In case of cyber fraud, the public was urged to contact their bank branch immediately, dial the national cybercrime helpline 1930 and report incidents on the official cybercrime portal.

The camps witnessed enthusiastic participation, reflecting growing awareness and commitment towards financial empowerment and secure banking practices in the district.
