KATRA: The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Cell of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University organized a “Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan March” across the university campus to promote awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse, in line with the Government of India’s Nasha Mukt Bharat initiative.

The programme was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Coordinator of the UBA Cell, along with Dr. Sunny Kumar Sharma (Co-Coordinator), Dr. Anil Bhardwaj, Dr. Amit Kumar Sinha, and Dr. Vaibhav Sapkal, members of the UBA Cell. The march commenced from BC Junction and proceeded towards the New Academic Block, where participants took the Nasha Mukt Bharat pledge.

On the occasion, Dean Students’ Welfare, Prof. S. K. Mishra, addressed the gathering and highlighted the adverse effects of drug abuse. He emphasized the responsibility of students to remain vigilant and to ensure that their peers, friends, and family members stay away from substance use. The march witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff, who united to spread the message of a drug-free society.

Participants carried placards and raised slogans advocating a healthy and addiction-free lifestyle. Organized under the Community Engagement and Social Responsibility course, the initiative aimed to sensitize the university community and encourage youth to play an active role in combating substance abuse. It also sought to instill a sense of social responsibility among students, motivating them to become agents of positive change.

During the event, volunteers engaged with participants and highlighted the physical, psychological, and social consequences of drug addiction. The programme concluded with a collective pledge to support the vision of a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” and to spread awareness within the wider community. The UBA Cell, SMVDU, continues to actively undertake such outreach initiatives, reaffirming its commitment to social development and nation-building.
