SOPORE: In continuation of the ongoing 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan, J&K Police today intensified its multi-pronged action across Police District Sopore by conducting awareness programmes, enforcement activities and community engagement initiatives to combat the menace of drug abuse.

An awareness programme followed by a public rally was organised at Warpora Sopore, which was presided over by SDPO Sopore and attended by concerned SHOs, ICs PPs and members of the public. As part of enforcement measures, focused checking of medical stores and pharmacies was carried out to ensure that no psychotropic or scheduled drugs are sold without valid prescriptions. Simultaneously, intensified naka checking and area patrolling were conducted to deter drug trafficking and public consumption of narcotics. To promote a healthy and drug-free lifestyle, yoga sessions and a Kho-Kho match were organised at District Police Lines Sopore, with active participation from students and local youth.

The programmes witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, traders, civil society members and religious scholars, who expressed strong support for sustained action against the drug menace. During the awareness sessions, speakers highlighted the adverse impact of drug abuse on individuals, families and society and emphasised that tackling the issue requires a collective societal effort. Parents, teachers and community leaders were urged to play a proactive role in guiding youth and preventing substance abuse.

Participants also took a collective pledge to work towards a drug-free society and to actively support the efforts of J&K Police in eradicating the drug menace from Police District Sopore. Police reiterated that alongside strict enforcement, continuous awareness and community engagement remain key components of the strategy under the Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan.
