SRINAGAR: Social Welfare Department (SWD) through the SANKALP Hub for Empowerment of Women Srinagar organized an awareness session on reproductive health and hygiene for women at Mission Poshan Zone Khonmoh.
The programme aimed to create awareness among women and adolescent girls regarding the importance of reproductive health, personal hygiene, proper nutrition, and preventive healthcare practices. The session saw enthusiastic participation from local women, Anganwadi workers, as well as pregnant and lactating mothers from the area.
During the programme, Dr. Sabiya Wani from the Department of Health served as the resource person and delivered an informative session on key aspects of women’s health. She emphasized the importance of menstrual hygiene, maintaining a balanced diet, timely medical check-ups, and early identification of health concerns to ensure the overall well-being of women. She also informed participants about various government schemes and healthcare services available for women under different social welfare and health initiatives.
Officials from SANKALP Hub for Empowerment of Women Srinagar highlighted that awareness and education are essential tools for empowering women and strengthening community health. They encouraged participants to share the knowledge gained during the session with their families and communities, helping to promote healthy practices and remove the stigma often associated with reproductive health issues.
The participants appreciated the initiative and expressed the need for organizing more such awareness programmes at the grassroots level to improve health awareness and ensure better outcomes for women and adolescent girls. The programme concluded with an interactive discussion, where participants shared their concerns and experiences, followed by the distribution of informational material to further enhance awareness on reproductive health and hygiene.
