HANDWARA:  In a significant step towards curbing the menace of drug trafficking and abuse, J&K Police, in strict compliance with the orders of the Hon’ble Additional Sessions Court, Handwara, successfully carried out the destruction of narcotic drugs seized in connection with eight cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The disposal process was executed on October 07, 2025, at a designated site outside the District Police Lines (DPL) Handwara, adhering to all legal and scientific protocols.

The narcotic substances, valued at several lakh rupees were meticulously destroyed in a controlled and scientific manner to ensure environmental safety and compliance with judicial directives. The seized contraband, linked to eight NDPS cases investigated by Police District Handwara, was disposed of under stringent supervision of the designated officials. The process was carried out with utmost transparency and in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the Hon’ble Court, ensuring that all necessary precautions were taken to maintain the integrity of the operation.

The destruction of the seized drugs was conducted under the aegis of the Drug Disposal Committee, chaired by the Hon’ble Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC), Handwara. The committee ensured that the disposal adhered to the highest standards of legal and procedural compliance. The operation was closely monitored by key officials, including the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Handwara, the Executive Magistrate First Class Handwara, the Additional Public Prosecutor JMIC Handwara, and the Station House Officer (SHO) Handwara. Their presence guaranteed that the process was executed in letter and spirit, as mandated by the court’s directives.

The operation was designed to eliminate any potential environmental or health hazards, with the destruction carried out in a manner that met stringent safety standards. This meticulous approach highlights the police’s resolve to follow judicial orders with precision while addressing the broader societal issue of drug abuse.
