JAMMU: The Department of Tourism and Travel Management of Central University of Jammu hosted its annual fest, Travelism-2024, to celebrate World Tourism Day. This year’s theme, "Peace and Tourism," emphasized the integral role that tourism plays in fostering peace and unity across the globe.
The event was inaugurated with great enthusiasm by the Chief Guest, Dr. Vivekananda Rai, Director Tourism, Jammu, and the Guest of Honor, Dr. Bharat Sharma, Faculty at Kaplan Business School and Swinburne University, Australia. Both dignitaries highlighted the importance of tourism in building bridges between cultures and promoting mutual understanding.
The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and Patron of the event, Prof. Sanjeev Jain along with Registrar, Prof. Yashwant Singh, graced the occasion with their presence, offering invaluable support to the Department’s efforts. Dr. Ranjeet Kumar Raman, Head of the Department of Tourism and Travel Management, also addressed the gathering, focusing on the academic and professional dimensions of tourism in today’s world. The inauguration was graced with the presence of the faculty of the different disciplines.
In their inspiring addresses, the dignitaries underscored the need for promoting the local tourism potential of the region, with Dr. Rai particularly emphasizing how peace can be cultivated through travel and cultural exchange. Dr. Bharat Sharma shared global perspectives on tourism trends, encouraging students to seize international opportunities.
Travelism-2024 features an array of competitive activities including Startup Pitch, Ad-Mad Show, Solo Singing competition, Folk Dance competition, Fashion show- Style and Swag, Photography- snapping through my Phone, Rangoli making competition and Logo designing competition designed to engage and challenge students in various aspects of tourism and hospitality.
The students with maximum participation and positions have been conferred with the Mr. Travelism and Miss. Travelism -2024 trophies. A major highlight of the event is "Bharat Ka Swad," where students from different states of India set up food stalls showcasing their local cuisines. This vibrant exhibition not only celebrates the diverse flavors of India but also offers a unique opportunity for students to experience the culinary richness of the country. The food stalls have become a focal point, drawing large crowds eager to taste regional delicacies while supporting student initiatives.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Bharti Gupta, the Organizing Secretary of Travelism-2024. Heema Devi and Samriti Sharma kept the audience engaged throughout the event as the Masters of Ceremony.
