SHOPIAN: The scenic locale of Dubjan in Shopian today came alive with colour, culture and enthusiasm as Winter Carnival–II 2026 was organised and celebrated with great fervour by the Department of Tourism in collaboration with District Administration Shopian. The event was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Shishir Gupta in presence of district administration officers and officials from various departments.

The venue was beautifully decorated and all arrangements ensured smooth conduct of the mega event. Marking the formal inauguration, the Deputy Commissioner released pigeons into the air as a symbol of peace, harmony and communal brotherhood, drawing applause from the gathering. At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the stalls of various departments showcasing their schemes and initiatives for public awareness and outreach.

On the occasion, a bike rally was also flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner along with senior officers. Cultural programmes presented by the Tourism department, District Information Centre Shopian, students of various educational institutions added vibrancy and traditional charm to the carnival. The Sports Department organized several thrilling activities including tug of war, martial arts demonstrations, races and other competitions, witnessing enthusiastic participation of youth and local residents.

The event witnessed a large turnout of visitors who appreciated the coordinated efforts of the District Administration and Tourism Department in making Winter Carnival–II a grand success at Dabjan. The successful conduct of Winter carnival-II at Dabjan is district's growing reputation as a winter tourism destination and the collective efforts of district administration and local community in making the event more attractive and memorable.

The Winter carnival-II was widely appreciated as a significant initiative towards promoting Dabjan as emerging winter destination, strengthening tourism outreach and opening new avenues for local economic growth.

Traditional folk songs, music skit and cultural performances enthralled the audience and showcased the rich heritage and talent of the region.Various other recreational and adventure activities including horse riding, skiing, snow boarding, snow tubing, snowmobile rides and paragliding attracted youth and visitors in large numbers.
