POONCH: Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Ashok Kumar Sharma, who is also the Principal Census Officer, today chaired a meeting to review the preparations for Census 2027, one of the largest and most sensitive administrative exercises in the country.

During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held regarding the constitution of Census Cells at the district and tehsil levels. Discussions focused on ensuring adequate infrastructure, deployment of computer-proficient operators and streamlining administrative arrangements for the smooth conduct of census operations.

The meeting also reviewed the process for procurement and outsourcing of manpower, including the engagement of Technical Assistants. Emphasis was laid on the timely hiring of technical staff to ensure that preparatory activities are completed well in advance.

The Deputy Commissioner directed concerned officers to launch a comprehensive public awareness campaign highlighting the importance and schedule of fieldwork for Census 2027. He instructed that information be disseminated through print and electronic media, social media platforms, hoardings and wall paintings to ensure maximum outreach. He further stressed the need to maintain high standards of data quality, ensuring accuracy without omission or duplication.

The nomination of Master Trainers at the district level and Supervisors/Enumerators by the respective Charge Officers was also discussed during the meeting. Highlighting the sensitive and significant nature of the census, the Deputy Commissioner underscored the importance of meticulous planning, close monitoring and effective coordination among all departments. He urged all stakeholders to extend full cooperation to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of Census 2027 in the district.
